What is the Technical SEO Audit Checklist

What is the Technical SEO Audit Checklist?

Everyone in the online business will want to get to the top of the SEO rank and stay there, but this is something that is not easy and there is a lot of competition.

This will mean you will need to make sure that you stay ahead of the game and make sure that you do not get left behind.

This means that you will need to make sure that you are doing everything that you can to get on the front page of the search engine.

The technical SEO audit is one of the most important SEO audits you can do. It is the cornerstone of getting the right results.

But if don’t know what to look for you will likely miss some important stuff. This blog is a checklist of the most critical things to look for. So, let us discuss what is the technical SEO audit checklist?

What is Technical SEO?

High search rankings are great, but you can’t stop there. You need to make sure search engine spiders can understand your site and index it properly; otherwise, all of your SEO efforts will go waste and your customers may never find you online even though you’re technically getting a lot of the right visitors.

The best-made plans oftentimes go awry and that’s why we encourage you to leave no stone unturned when it comes to technical search engine optimization.

We’ll help you bolster your infrastructure so that everything is working in proper harmony out in the world wide web so your audience engagement increases.

Importance of Technical SEO

When digital marketing teams develop strategies to get their brands ranked well on search engines, they must remember that there is more to SEO than choosing high-ranking keywords and optimizing webpage content.

There are other crucial technical components required such as ensuring your website codes match up with standard internet rules such as title tags and alt image tags to name a few.

Search Engines look at sites that are responsive and navigable to determine their relevance.

By optimizing your site through technical SEO, you allow search engines to determine its value and protect yourself from common issues that can impede its inclusion in pertinent search rankings and provide a positive online experience for visitors.

The site was preventing itself from ranking in its target keywords. To solve the problem, our technical SEO experts removed media attachments, eliminated duplicate content, performed regular technical SEO audits, and monitored crawl errors using Google Search Console.

Technical SEO Audit Checklist

The more content your website has, the harder it is for search engines to understand what you’re all about and the more time and resources they’ll spend crawling and processing your pages.

So, we’ve done all of the heavy lifting for you and created a technical SEO audit checklist with every aspect of technical SEO that we think is so important.

Site speed

Site Speed Optimization is not a matter of preference and doing so is essential. If you notice, the faster your site loads, the more returning customers you will have and how much more potential clientele you’ll gain over time!

According to Google, a one-second delay in mobile page loading time decreases your conversion rate by 20 percent.

Needless to say, Site Speed Management plays a crucial role in your online engagement and firm performance. It affects various metrics such as site visibility, conversions, bounce rate, and page visits.

The team over at Google has done research on their side of things and has found that there are some important reasons behind why your website’s load times should be as short as possible.

For example, if users don’t get to your site quickly then they may get frustrated or mentally exhausted due to the fact that they are being forced to wait too long before being able to access the content.

Unfortunately, within this scenario bounce rates go up significantly, meaning page views decrease accordingly; we don’t want that happening in our business!

Also keep in mind that when web visitors aren’t satisfied with product delivery, Google will see this and then use it against you when determining rank in their SERPs (Search Engine Results Pages).

Site speed

Mobile Responsiveness

It is estimated that there are currently ~5 billion mobile devices in use. When it comes to online searches, approximately 50% of them are conducted using mobile devices (these statistics were gathered by Moz).

Google is working assiduously to keep up with the growing number of mobile users. To achieve this, the company has launched updates for both mobile-related content and general usability; however, nothing can ensure better search results than responsive web design.

Because responsive web design helps create websites that are compatible across all types of phones and tablets, the content on your site will be more readily accessible to search bots!

This can increase page load time – which is so important for optimizing your user experience.

Robots.txt

You already know what structured data is, but it’s time for us to introduce you to robots.txt!

Robots.txt is a simple text document that tells search engines (i.e. Google or Bing) which areas of your web page should be indexed and displayed in the SERPs; allowing you to optimize SEO for your entire page by specifying which parts products can be found on the internet based on the URL the code has been placed on, block crawlers from accessing pages that don’t need to be indexed (such as login pages), prevent canonicalization issues, and much more – all with this simple file.

Robots.txt

Inline style

It’s always a good idea to ask yourself this: “Is what I’m trying to do something that can be better handled by an external stylesheet?”

Purchasing a quality theme is the best way to save time and effort in the long term because it separates your site’s content from its design elements.

If we think about it, that’s really all that’s needed for inline styles to existing in the first place, but since external stylesheets are already fulfilling this role then there really isn’t any reason to use inline ones either.

Metadata

Metadata defines what a page is about and gives context to the content of the page. It does not display anything on its own – it’s simply data – but provides information for search engine spiders to use in building the list of results that appear in search engines like Google and Bing (this meta description can be used as a snippet).

Metcific data may include meta titles, meta descriptions, title tags, canonical tags, Google structured data, and keywords.

There are other forms of metadata relevant to SEO that isn’t covered here, such as microdata and RDFa (Resource Description Framework in Attributes), but for this post, we’ll be focusing on those items mentioned above which you’d use “as is” without any modification.

There are so many other facets to technical SEO for WordPress websites than just metadata though. Keep reading if you need more information about optimizing your website.

Metadata

Keywords and content

While keyword research and content development are often included in on-page search engine optimization, this doesn’t mean you should overlook them when it comes to your technical SEO audit.

It’s important to ensure your site’s pages are optimized for relevant keywords and latent semantic indexing (LSI) vocabulary to avoid Google penalties.

You also want to ensure that your content is comprehensive and up-to-date so that you can gain qualified leads and increase traffic on your site over time.

Conclusion

Aside from all the on-page stuff that you need to look into, technical SEO is also an essential part of your SEO strategy.

Tech SEO audits are not just about ensuring that your site is compliant but also about making sure that your site is equipped with the necessary elements that will help it perform well in search engine indexes.

The SEO audit checklist is a list of things you go over to make sure that all the technical aspects of your website are optimized for a better search engine ranking.

The audit checklist should be a list of items that you need to go over at least once a month for all your websites. I hope that after reading this article you will understand what is the technical SEO audit checklist.
