Turning on Photoshop Actions
You need to make sure your action palette is visible. If you’re not seeing it, go Window > Actions (ALT or Option + F9).
Explore the Photoshop Actions Panel
With these buttons in place, we are ready to explore 12 important things found within this panel. This is the perfect time for us all to learn and grow as a result of our curiosity – let’s start with something simple.
- The Action Panel is a great tool that allows you to create, save and share your animations. You can also customize the animation by selecting from many different preset movements or adding new ones of your own.
- The Animation panel provides an easy way for users to make their moves come alive on screen. It’s perfect for players who want more control over how they animate themselves with specific body parts like arms and legs while performing certain actions – such as running away from enemies in battle games or jumping around during dance sequences at concerts.
- To stop recording, tap the Stop icon.
- To start a new action or add commands to any existing actions, you can use Record.
- Press the “Play a Selected Action Back” button to watch yourself playback your favorite action.
- Pressing this will delete all of the actions in that set, so be careful. To add an adorable little bunny hopping animation onto your character’s walk cycle, click on Add New Action and then select Jump Feet a Little Bit off Ground.
- You can create and organize all of your design actions within one single folder. Whether you need a new template or want to start working on some mockups – everything is right there when you open the window.
- Imagine an action as a collection of many commands that, when executed together perform one specific task. You can use Photoshop to execute these tasks by clicking on the different options and checking off which ones you want to be done.
- When you have the menu icon activated, users can change the parameters of an action like a Gaussian Blur filter. For example, set to 2px by default but if you don’t see this button and want it at 10 px for some reason, then simply turn on the “menu” option in your settings.

Create our First Photoshop Action
I’ve always wanted to design my own business card, but I could never find a template that was high enough quality. This is the perfect solution
I’m building action for you so you can have your own super cool and professional-looking business cards with just one click of the mouse button.
It’s called “BusinessCard Template,” it uses bleed size settings for printing purposes, and it even includes guidelines on where to place your contact information – all within Adobe Photoshop CS6 or later versions only.
The first thing our action must do is to create a new document. To do this, choose File > New (CTRL or Command + N) from the toolbar and change its height and width accordingly – 3.5 inches by 2 inches should suffice for starters.
Next, make sure that the color mode is set to CMYK before hitting OK on your keyboard when done with all of these settings in place.
Now let’s create guidelines across the page. To do this, go to View > New Guide and set 4 guides total with these settings in each new dialog box:
Vertical at 0%, Vertical at 100%, Horizontal at 0% and Horizontal at 100%.
Next, we need to add a bleed around our business card. The normal bleed will be 0.125 inches on each side of the document for the height and width respectively, so that’s 0.25 inches total in either direction from all four sides of your surface area (0x4=1″).
To make sure this is done correctly with as little hassle as possible, go ahead and use Image > Canvas Size … (CTRL+ALT+C or Command + Option + C) here again but do not change anything yet. In this way, a card will be created.
Modify the Bleed Size Values
There are always going to be variations in bleed requirements, but the action still works great! If you don’t like what our default values gave you, though (0.25 inches width and height), simply change them by double-clicking on “Canvas” in your actions panel list view mode.
