How to Print Gridlines in Excel

How to Print Gridlines in Excel?

Excel is a powerful tool that you think you know about, but might not actually be using to its maximum potential. One such feature is gridlines.

Learning how to print gridlines in excel can go a long way as it will let you work more efficiently and also look professional.

Gridlines are tiny lines that run across your excel spreadsheets. These lines help you easily align your cells and ensure they are properly aligned.

This means that they can help you beautify your spreadsheet. This blog is focused on showing you the printing gridlines in excel.

Using Sheet option to print gridlines

The quickest way to obtain gridlines is by modifying the page settings accessible through the “Sheet Options group”. The following are the steps to obtain gridlines for your page.

  • Select Page Layout. This will be found in the top portion of your Excel window under the tabs. Once you’ve done this, look for Sheet Options (the group of tools).

Page Layout

  • This feature contains two options, one for Gridlines and the second for Headings. Under the Gridlines option, there are checkboxes for View and Print. Make sure the box beside ‘Print’ is checked.

Gridlines

  • By going to File -> Print you will have the ability at the last point of navigation before actual printing, to decide how your outputted sheet will look by choosing from a list of many different options such as “Print with Grids”. When in this mode navigate over to the print preview which is usually the option named “Print Preview.” Once there you can then click on print when you’re ready and proceed accordingly.

Print with Grids

Using Page Setup Launcher Tool to Print Gridlines

Using the launcher, located in the upper-right corner of each Excel worksheet, you can open the Task Pane contextual tab launcher switch to access all group context-sensitive task panes.

Once again, if you prefer for your gridlines to appear onscreen while printing your spreadsheets, simply click on the Gridlines Launcher that you’ll see right next to the File button.

If you want to make sure that the gridlines will be printed whenever your data is, then you need to use the Page Setup launcher. Here are the steps you need to follow:

  • To print your cell, select the particular cell that you want to print. Look at one of the upper corners of this selected cell. You’ll find a button there labeled Print Area. Select the Page Layout tab (in the top portion of your Excel window) which will give you further options related to formatting and printing your spreadsheet.

Page Layout tab

  • Now find the ‘Page Setup’ group of tools under this tab.

Page Setup

  • At the bottom right corner of this group, you will see a small, white dialog box launcher. Click this tool to launch the Page Setup dialog box.Page Setup
  • It will open the Page Setup dialog box.

Page Setup dialog box

  • On the top of this box, there is an option of the sheet, you have to click on it.

sheet

  • Move to the print section, under this section, the Option of Gridlines will appear on the screen and you have to mark this option. Now it will assure you that gridlines will appear when you take the print.
  • To see a preview of how your web page will look when printed, you can click on the Print Preview button from the bottom of the window on your computer screen. This takes you to the Print menu where you can check on your print preview. You’ll know that it looks just right once you get what you want.

preview

Now, you may ask yourself why you should use this dialog box as opposed to the other method where you simply check the option in the ribbon itself and then print with gridlines.

Furthermore, let us now discuss how this method is faster than printing with gridlines because it only focuses on the current page and not your entire document.

If you want to print gridlines on your pages, there are two ways to do this: you can use the Page Setup dialog box (it’s faster) or you can manually open and edit your page setup (using either Microsoft Word 2000 or 2013 for Windows).

When using the Page Setup Dialog Box, we recommend checking out all of the Print Options – which include repeating headers and footers across all printed pages as well as changing layout and printing row numbers.

If gridlines are missing from your print preview or resulting printout, you probably have the “Draft quality” active for your printer.
